    Really appreciate you taking the time to talk through your decisions and process! The only improvement I would suggest is getting this in 4k. Trying to see the indicator in the water on video is so hard.

    Finally a video that explains all the lines proper? What flies would you have on dropper then I guess the weighted fly on the bottom

    • @TheCatchandTheHatch
      @TheCatchandTheHatch 2 месяца назад

      That’s correct in a two nymph euro set up the heaviest fly on the bottom. On a three fly rig if legal in your area the middle is the heaviest so it makes a V in the water column

    What brand/model fly rod is that?

    • @TheCatchandTheHatch
      @TheCatchandTheHatch 8 месяцев назад

      they are both TFO rods. the dry fly rod is a 4 wt pro series 2 and the 3wt nymph is the BVK euro convertible rod (3wt dry in 4 pieces, 10.5'' 3wt euro rod with 5 pieces) I believe they have discontinued both rods at the moment and replaced them with newer models.

    At 1:30 the instructor is tying what becomes a non-slip loop knot. He ties it in a way that is much easier than the other technique I have found in videos, but unfortunately at the very end when he passes the tag end through the last loop to finish the knot, you can't see which loop he's passing it through???

    • @TheCatchandTheHatch
      @TheCatchandTheHatch 8 месяцев назад

      hey sorry for the late reply. So after going through both of the first made 2 loops, that process creates another loop. You go through that as the 3rd one.

    • @TheCatchandTheHatch
      @TheCatchandTheHatch Год назад

      Its tangle free while on the spool, not always while you fish it of course, but the foam spools work well to hold several fly/tippet set ups for quick changeout.

    Where did you put the line with respect to the sighter?

    • @TheCatchandTheHatch
      @TheCatchandTheHatch Год назад

      From the fly line, i use about 4-5ft of 9f 3x leader butt, then tie on tippet ring and the sighter line (about 4ft of it) then another tippet ring, then the 6x tippet. I do a video of how I set it up here - ruclips.net/video/_N3ryR64-68/видео.html

    • @joeborgione5477
      @joeborgione5477 Год назад

      @@TheCatchandTheHatch I guess I misunderstood what you say in this video about casting dries. Something I’ve stated doing is I swap out my 3wt euro reel with my standard 5wt reel to toss dry flies. That way I’m only carrying one rod. My 3wt euro rod is pretty slow with 5wt line but I kinda like it.

    • @TheCatchandTheHatch
      @TheCatchandTheHatch Год назад

      @@joeborgione5477 oh I understand now, you just switch out your reels. Thats a fine way too. My way has no change except the tippet and flies after the tippet ring. Its about as lazy as you can get, but it does seem to still work :)

    Great content !! I enjoy using a weighted fly line, a wf or dt on my euro reel with mono over that. I can strip off my mono and euro leader onto a piece of foam and use the wf or dt line for dry fly fishing. I was fishing today and saw trout rising to bwo’s and I took off my mono and euro leader and was dry fly fishing in just a few minutes. The key to this is what I stated at the beginning, what I enjoy. Thanks!!!!

    Great video, appreciate your insight. On the first hole you were in, I have found in my travels that a short line drop shot method can be helpful in deep faster water in the spring. Helps keep the bottom fly above the bottom of the river about a foot preventing a lot of hangups. I subscribe to your apps and have taken most of your courses. Keep up the great videos!

    Rather than tippet rings I use small swivels as they allow your line to swivel meaning less tangles as you do oval casts vrs the normal back and forth casts

    • @TheCatchandTheHatch

      I could see this working too but I haven’t tried it. What size are the swivels? I feel like the weight could mess with the rigs presentation

    Have fished that run for years. have never had to siene the water. Pretty basic fly setup. you were right when you said 20 or so casts with no action, time to change flies. do the trout hear you trash talking them? seems that anyone with a camera or gopro is an expert.

    • @TheCatchandTheHatch
      @TheCatchandTheHatch Год назад

      I hope the trout hear me trash talk them. It’s the only way it makes sense that it improves my catch rate :) I’ve found anytime I fish a new river or a river I haven’t fished in at least a week, that things often change. Rivers are so dynamic that a quick sampling with a bug seine can help you figure out the fly selection faster. Thanks for watching

    • @TheCatchandTheHatch

    Still real new to EN and I’m taking it in your video your 1st fly will be the heaviest and closest to the bottom and tied on to 5X and the 2nd fly is tied on with 4X? Am I correct? Thank you for any information and this is really a great video!!

    • @TheCatchandTheHatch
      @TheCatchandTheHatch Год назад

      For tippet sizes go bigger to smaller the further down the right you get. Ex 3x to first fly then 4x to next fly then 5x to next. First fly is the first fly I tie in and 2nd fly is the last or bottom fly. I’ve always seen this working both ways and being confusing so thanks for asking so I can clarify :) Hope the rig helps you get into some fish! We launched a full course on this on our site if you’re interested too.

    Why do you need a tippet ring?

    • @TheCatchandTheHatch
      @TheCatchandTheHatch Год назад

      Tippet rings simplify the process but you don’t need them. You can do a blood knot or triple surgeons knot too but tippet rings make it fats and allow you to just use one knot instead of learning others. It’s faster switching out rigs as well. From the sighted line you can swap out an entire 3 fly rig with a new one with just one improved clinch knot.
